The bounce of a wedge is determined by the bounce angle, sole width, sole camber and sole grind.The key to good wedge play is selecting the proper bounce in your higher lofted wedges to match your swing type and the conditions in which you typically play.Equally important is selecting the appropriate combination of gap, sand and lob wedges to provide you with the proper short game yardage gaps.

BOUNCE

Bounce is built into the sole of a wedge to keep it from digging into the turf or sand.
The greater the bounce, the more the sole resists digging.
Bounce helps prevent "fat" shots by keeping the club moving through the turf or sand.
Having enough bounce is particularly important on sand shots.
Too much bounce can make shots from firm conditions more difficult to execute.

Golf is a game that requires high levels of self control, vision and a calm hand. When playing each and every golf shot you need to have a clear focus on what you are trying to achieve. Your pre-shot routine is the time when you should be seeing, feeling and planning your best line of attack or defend.

What you should be doing in your Pre-Shot Routine,

1, First step is to choose what golf shot your are going to play, i,e, high, low, draw, fade, 7 iron sand wedge ect ect.

2, Once you have choosen your club and shot you need to focus on playing that club to the best of your ability. Stand behind the golf ball and try an see the shot in your mind, see the ball in the air, where that ball will land and how the ball will fly through the air.

3, Always decide how many practice swings you are going to have and stick to that routine. If you are nervous, relaxed or angry stick to your smae routine and have the same practice swings.

4, Set up to your ball, see the shot remember to breath and play your shot, once that shot has been played then the routine has to start again.

Pre-Shot routine has to be your own and you have to be able to use it on every shot, so it can not be to long. Twenty practice swings will not win you any friends on the golf course. Make it short and sweet and your own.

Everyone knows that from a hundred yards in is where the scoring shots really start to count. The best players in the world are very good at getting the ball up and down from 100 yards in. If it is to save par or to make birdie hitting a pitch shot close always feels great, and at the same time takes the pressure off your tee shots.

To hit better golf pitches you need to be able to control the distance you hit the ball. The best way to control your pitching distance is to try and turn your shoulders different amounts for more or less power.

Lots of golfers when hitting a pitch swing with their arms and turn their shoulders, but both movements are not in sync with eachother. You want to try and turn your shoulders to make your backswing and when your shoulders stop that is when the club and arms stop to. To control the distance of your pitch you need to hit lots if golf shots turning your shoulders differnet amounts and see how far that hits the golf ball.

Better pitching is about better control with the golf club and your body. Think shoulder turn for distance and stop using your arms.

If you want to strike the golf ball with power and control then you need to have a good well balanced starting position.

The most common mistake when it comes to standing to the golf ball is golfers like to have most of their body weight on the heels of their feet. This can cause topping, thining and general bad striking. If you watch the worlds best golfers you will notice that they will start with their weight on the balls of their feet. This feels far to far towards for most golfers, but with your weight more on the balls of your feet you are much more ready for actions.

The best way to check if your weight is not on your heels is to make sure your shoulders are forward of your toes. Simply drop a club down from your shoulders and see if it is forward of your your toes, if it is not then you need to lean into your shots more than you already are.

Remember good posture will help you hit the golf ball with great control and the correct launch angel.

As you can see from the picture even with his very heavy and extra stiff shaft the forces pulling on the golf club are to strong and the shaft has amazing bend before impact. High speed camera footage shows that even though the shaft may flex the centre of gravity catches up with the grip at impact.

What Makes You Top Your Golf Shots

The topped golf shot is one that so many golfer hit. The ball shoots or bounce along the ground with no launch or flight. I then hear so many golfers say "head up" after hitting the top shot. This always makes me feel sad because that golfer is never going to improve unless they deal with the issue.

99% of topped golf shots with an iron from the ground are because the player strikes the ball on the way up. The club head has reached it's lowest point before the ball and is on the rise as it strikes, thus encoraging the top. Iron shots from the ground need to be struck on the downswing. If you watch the golf on the TV one of the most asked question is " how do they get so much backspin". To generate backspin a ball has to be struck with a decending blow. It is the downward strike that imparts the backspin on the ball. Worldclass golfer hit the ball hard and on the downswing with iron shots into greens and this gives them control.

To practise hittiing the ball on the downswing and to check if you do hit the ball on the way down or the way up, simply hit some shots with ball 6 inches forward in your stace. Hit some iron shots with the ball forward of your left foot. If you are striking on the downswing your club would still be very low to the ground at this point so hitting a shot with the ball so far forward won't feel to hard. If you find it hard to strike the ball when it is so far forward then you are hitting on the upswing. Try practising this drill until it feels more natural with the ball forward then move it back to the correct poisiton.
